I would say no as the process relies on the CSV import into the Audi SPOI site. The dx2 file is not a text file so I would say that rules it out.

I also think the info from pocketgps is way more accurate and good value for £20 a year.

I'm not convinced that PocketGPS is more accurate. I reported a camera that has been removed nearly a year ago but it's still appears in the latest download.

Not so concerned about failing to remove as much as failing to add!

Did a lengthy trip a few weeks ago with lots of temporary cameras along the way and found it was very accurate. May not be as good as more expensive alternatives but I’m happy with it for the money.

Have you figured anything out yet?

I have an 2015 A6 with the same issue with the message I would need to buy 2018/2019 update from my Audi Partner.

You can download the 2018/2019 files from the Audi beta version of myAudi ok but then when trying to install them to the car you get an invalid update media. I have downloaded twice now and tried two different cards. The file structure is identical to the 2018 but the contents are different, nothing obvious sticking out as a licence file.

After getting my online traffic extended for free I eventually got Audi UK help to get me a price ... £163.58 + VAT

So going in for its MOT in 3 weeks and will check to see if any other options.

I also found that myAudi beta let you download the 2018/2019 maps. I also went through the download process twice. I guess the FSC/FeC's embedded in the car at factory know when the updates are licensed till and are rejecting the update media because they know the maps data wont be licensed if it did get installed.

I guess we are now in the realms of either paying for each update (or perhaps less frequently) or waiting for the really clever guys to figure it out, but i don't really expect a free solution any time soon, not whilst the people that have figured it out can make money from it...

I suspect like the online Traffic that the car will talk home to get its updates. The alternative is a licence update file via SD I guess.

Daft question what does FSC and FeC stand for?

I have had a "play" with the files in the update and with what I have found on the web. The main control file is metainfo2.txt which is effectively a build file. This contains all the files in the build, plus filesizes and MD5 hashes of each of the file.

This prevents you for just updating the respective files on an older version which the car would accept. There are also new files in 2018/2019 that were not in the previous builds.

To stop you modifying the metainfo2.text file it then has its own SHA1 hash at the top of the file. Then the real challenge is that this hash has a privately signed crypto signature at the bottom of the file.

The cars have the public key so they can verify that the signature and hence hash is valid.

In that case they can see the version number of the maps and whether they can update.

    So speaking hypothetically

    1) You would need to have the private key to be able to resign the file with the new hashes. That's not available
    2) Alter the public key on the car so you could use your own private key - not yet figured out how to do it
    3) Buy the upgrade - is a bit of a shame given the competitors don't charge for comparable systems
    4) Buy a new car ...
