2017/2018 Map update available

1) You would need to have the private key to be able to resign the file with the new hashes. That's not available
2) Alter the public key on the car so you could use your own private key - not yet figured out how to do it
3) Buy the upgrade - is a bit of a shame given the competitors don't charge for comparable systems
4) Buy a new car ...

Personally, I'd love to get the audi maps and continue using the MMI, but I think before option 4, I'll look at retrofitting the AUDI Smart Phone Interface and just using CarPlay.

Problem is carplay is also a pain on pre 17.08.15 cars

I think that is the route I will go. I'm unsure as to the order of upgrades if I decide to miss one.

I.e. if I have upgrade 1, 2, 3, 4 then skip UG5 and UG6, would I get UG7 when it becomes available, or would I get UG5?

Mercedes charge about £200 for the upgrade, so Audi is a comparable amount but given Ordnance Survey charge me £20 per annum for the entire map-range they offer and I can access Google Maps for free, I see little benefit to paying £200 to Audi. I think Andy bought his Smart Phone codes for about £200 and paid his local dealer an hour's labour to install the ASI.

I'm not aware of any dependency on the previous version for map updates

There isn't a dependency as such, however it is the first 5 update releases after the car has been built so for a 2015 year car it will be stop before the 2018/2019 or so depending when in the year it was built.

You can't miss an upgrade to prolong which maps you get.

I realize this! I mean after free update if you choose to pay, it is possible to skip, there is no dependency then...

Sorry yes no dependency from that point of view. I thought though some manufacturers including Mercedes were doing free updates for the life of the car though

I can’t see how to do this on the new MyAudi pages ...... has the update option been removed? How does that work when the car came with 3 years of free updates????

You can also do it OTA but if pre MY17 then you’d need a separate SIM or phone hotspot.

I’m MY17 - but I hate to think how long an OTA update would take!!!!
