    I've got a 2000 W reg 1.8 20v Passat. Bought 2 weeks ago.

The alarm has gone off randomly either as soon as you lock with remote or hours later.

I've been locking with the lock button on the drivers door and locking passenger door with key to stop alarm being activated (no led flashing on drivers door which it does when locking with remote).

But this morning even though the led is not flashing so alarm not activated the alarm keeps going off when locking with key, still same with remote also. so had to leave car unlocked while at work today.

    Any ideas would be fantastic.

    Thanks.

My first port of call would be to look under the carpet in the passenger side front footwell for water. There's an ECU infront of the seat that controls the alarm, windows, central lcoking and interior lights, its called the 'comfort control module'
It gets flooded with water and messes everything up when it does. Dont just feel the carpet from the outside, you need to feel under it just infront of the passenger seat and that ECU sits down in a kind of recess in the floor.
Do the windows and interior lights work OK?
If they do, and the CCM is dry, get it scanned for codes as its more than likely a door module thats bad. Ive also had broken wires on these inside the door jam rubber boots which will also give weird intermittent behaviour. Had the same on my Mrs' Passat, the window would go down OK but would only go up with the door open!
