well firstly is what coolant are you going to buy ??

My advice is to go to EuroCarParts and buy PRE MIXED coolant with its 50/50 mix

Then look at your expansion cap and see if its at least G12 or G13 you need

Simply disconnect the bottom hose of the radiator and drain the coolant, except you wont be able to drain all of it. Let the car cool down before draining & especially refilling ................... you don't want the extremes of going from hot to cold causing any damage

Then bleed the system on refilling it, making sure your heater in car works ok, otherwise you can damage the car .................

A rule of thumb is to run car for 10 minutes with heater on ECON and put fan on full blast with the temp at its hottest setting .................... you may have to bleed the inlet pipe going to matrix

here you go

Draining coolant
Note
t Collect drained coolant in a clean container for re-use or disposal.
t Observe waste disposal regulations.
WARNING
Steam may escape when expansion tank is opened. Wear eye protection and protective clothing to avoid eye injuries and scalding. Cover cap with cloth and open carefully.
Open cap for coolant expansion tank.
Remove noise insulation → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.50.
Release quick-release coupling -arrow- and remove coolant hose from radiator.
Additionally remove hose from oil cooler -arrow-.
Power unit > 4-cylinder injection engine (2.0 l engine, turbocharger) > Engine cooling > Parts of cooling system > Draining and filling coolant > Draining coolant

Filling with coolant
Caution
For mixing, only potable water may be used. Soiled water does not have the required quality to ensure the coolant's function.
Note
t In vehicles as of model year 2008, only G 12 plus-plus according to TL VW 774 G may be used as coolant additive.
t For vehicles up to and including model year 2007 coolant additive G 12 plus according to TL VW 774 F and G 12 plus-plus according to TL VW 774 G can be used.
t The coolant additive G 12 plus-plus can be mixed with the previous coolant additive G 12 plus. Identification: both are coloured purple.
t Coolant additives marked „according to TL VW 774 G“ or „according to TL VW 774 F“ prevent frost and corrosion damage, scaling and also raise boiling point of coolant. Therefore, the cooling system must be filled all year round with coolant additive.
t Because of its higher boiling point, the coolant improves engine reliability under heavy loads, particularly in countries with tropical climates.
t Frost protection is required down to about -25°C (in countries with arctic climates: down to about -35°C).
t The coolant concentration must not be reduced by adding water even in warmer seasons and in warmer countries. The coolant additive concentration must be at least 40%.
t If for climatic reasons greater frost protection is required, the amount of coolant additive can be increased, but only up to 60 % (frost protection to about -40 °C). Otherwise frost protection and cooling effectiveness are reduced again.
t The refractometer -T10007- is recommended for determining the current anti-freeze concentration.
t If radiator, heat exchanger, cylinder head or cylinder head gasket is renewed, do not reuse old coolant.
Recommended mixture ratios:
Frost protection
to
Anti-freeze
proportion
G 12 plus1)
G 12 plus-plus1)
Water1) 2)
-25°C
-35°C
40 %
50 %
3.2 l
4.0 l
4.8 l
4.0 l

1) The quantity of coolant can vary depending upon the vehicle equipment.
2) Only use clean tap water.
Reconnect hose and connector
Install noise insulation → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.50.
With cooling system charge unit -VAS 6096-:
Screw adapter for cooling system tester -V.A.G 1274/8- onto expansion tank.
Fill coolant circuit using cooling system charge unit -VAS 6096- → Operating instructions for cooling system charge unit VAS 6096.
Without cooling system charge unit -VAS 6096-:
Slowly fill coolant to upper marking of shaded field on expansion tank.
Fit expansion tank cap.
Vehicles with no auxiliary heater
Start engine and maintain an engine speed of about 2000 rpm for about 3 minutes.
Run engine until radiator fan -V7- cuts-in.
From heater coolant shut-off valve -N279-
Caution
The auxiliary heater must only be switched on when the coolant circuit is filled, described as follows:
Connect Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system -VAS 5051 A- as follows:
Push diagnosis cable connector onto diagnosis connection in driver footwell.
Start engine and maintain an engine speed of about 2000 rpm for about 3 minutes.
Press buttons on display for „Vehicle self-diagnosis“, „18 - Auxiliary heater“ and „Final control diagnosis“ one after the other.
Press right arrow button on display up to final control diagnosis for heater coolant shut-off valve -N279-.
Initiate final control diagnosis for heater coolant shut-off valve -N279-. Continue to maintain engine speed at approx. 2000 rpm for about 1 minute.
Run engine until radiator fan -V7- cuts-in.
Continuation for all vehicles
WARNING
Steam may escape when expansion tank is opened. Wear eye protection and protective clothing to avoid eye injuries and scalding. Cover cap with cloth and open carefully.
Check coolant level and top-up if necessary. When the engine is at normal operating temperature, the coolant level must be at the upper mark; when the engine is cold, in the middle of the shaded field.
Power unit > 4-cylinder injection engine (2.0 l engine, turbocharger) > Engine cooling > Parts of cooling system > Draining and filling coolant > Filling with coolant
