all over I'm afraid. This is not just a case of black cars showing marks, the paint and clear coat combo that Audi have used is horrible! I have a black M5 that has done more than double the mileage and has no swirls and hardly any stone chips. Both cars have GTechniq crystal Serum coatings.

I've had my Orca black Q7 for just over a year now and havnt seen this problem. I always hand wash (with one exception), maybe that's the difference.

I am pleased that you haven't had a problem. I am not sure we can chalk it down to hand washing - I do the same and use DI water, so don't even dry the car. All of my problems seem to have been caused by either stone chips or people walking past the car.

Mine spent 8 weeks as a demonstrator with my local Audi dealer before I could pick it up. Tomorrow it goes in to Robbie at Valet Magic for a full machine polish to remove all the swirls and marring that the car had inflicted on it for the first 2000 miles. I'll report back how it fares in the hands of someone with some paintwork sensitivity over the coming weeks and months.

Back from Robbie, really pleased with the results. Trick now will be keeping it looking this way. It's got a full GTechniq coating and a layer of wax dropped on it, I will be trying to stay as contactless as possible on the clean from here on in.

I thought the same thing Nemo78, car was originally booked to have either a titanium respray or the wheels black and then diamond cut on the faces like the RS6. When we got the car however my wife said she liked that the wheels and the running boards matched.

I'm still on the fence, but Robbie says he can turn around the wheels in two days for under £300 if I change my mind later (nearer £400 and 4 days with the diamond cut).

    Next pay day perhaps

    lovely looking car
def with Nemo and your thoughts on the wheels

we are in the eara of powercoated wheels and diamond cuts I think if you went ahead that would finish the car off

if afraid the wheels make the car and and the first thing that's noticed

if u had done what you said it would also make your car unique and you won't see another Q the same

plus if you tell ur other half if it's diamond cut the edges will still match the running boards
