    Hi everyone,

New to the site, I ran into a bit of trouble with my Passat yesterday. Was driving to work and when I put the foot down the car engine died at 3000rpm, happens quite a few times then after, today it got worse, engine turns off around 2000-2500rpm.

Also a slight rattle has started in engine bay. Doesn't sound like it's coming from the engine, could this all be turbo or fuel related ?

    It's a 2007 Passat 2.0tdi 140.

Thanks for all advice in advance.

    Marcus

When you say that engine dies, what exactly do you mean?
Does it simply loses power and it comes back after you turn the engine off and on again? (AKA Limp mode?)
    Does it completely turn off?

With limp mode it could be number of things mate.
    underboost, overboost etc...
    Really need a VCDS scan.
Check this VCDS user location map here - https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ms...a=0&dg=feature
See if somebody is close to you who could scan the car and see what errors is it returning.

    Hi thanks for reply,

No it doesn't even get into limp mode the engine literally shuts off. So while driving I've had to clutch it and start the engine up again,

I already got it scanned and nothing showed up, also there are no engine lights or warning lights. I'm completely baffled by it.

    Thanks again

Sounds like classic sticking ( carbon build up ) vnt turbo limp mode .

And then there's some poor oil pump drive engineering to sort out..

So you reckon it's a turbo issue? Is it a case of the turbo needing to be replaced ?

And what would be entailed in the poor oil pump drive engineering ?

    Thanks for your help.

Ignore the chain drive part as a 2007 BKP will be gear driven.

    Kit 8 ( chain ) or 9 ( gear ) , my dad's old 2006 BKP was gear , ultimately drop the sump and observe .

Would that be the possible cause of the noise coming from the engine?

I don't get much time to work on the car. So I have it booked in with a turbo diesel specialist, so hopefully they can tell me what's going on with it.

It was quite difficult to start this morning and then when I got to work the oil light came on, red oil light. Also the engine cuts out before 2000rpm now.

    Thanks
