does anyone know the size of the Core/Welch/Freeze/expansion plugs on MK3 Golf? ABD engine?

I cannot seem to find the sizes online. The one i need is placed right behind the rear case of the timing belt so it isn't easy to reach as it is, let alone measure it.

This one has leaked, I've fixed it with engine sealant for now but would like to replace it. Which size am I looking for?

    Cheers,
    Lee.

Hello, should be 36.6mm - part number 036103113A.
You could even buy them from VW.... they are only a few quid anyway.

    Hi,

Thank you! Though I cannot seem to find the correct Genuine VW site for the parts?

If you could link me to it I would be very happy.

Go to a VW dealership, they can order them for you. Otherwise, there's load of sites that sell aftermarket ones.

    e.g.
Freeze Plug VW GOLF III (1H1) 1.4 - de 1991 60 HP buy cheap online - Freeze Plug - Engine

    Hi

just to confirm - the core plug behind the ABD MK3 golf 1.4 engine timing case (just under the Cam Sprocket) is 24mm in size.

I have just fitted it in and its nice and snug. Used a bit of Granville Gasket sealant type stuff and its a solid fit.

The front of Engine Core Plugs are indeed 36mm .
