I've read up a few things about being able to launch the BiTDi and decided to give it a go.

So, for those who haven't heard of this before, apparently the procedure is the same as in the RS6 (same tiptronic gearbox).

Warm engine is needed for this to work:

    Shift into Neutral.
Turn off auto-hold, traction control and start stop.
    Put into Dynamic mode
    Shift into S1
    Left foot hard on brake
Right foot down in the accelerator

It revs to about 3100 rpm then you have to release the brake within 5 seconds.

It worked for me and the acceleration was unbelievable. I had a MK7 Golf R (manual) before the A6 and the launch felt faster than anything I ever achieved in that.

If it's anything like the RS6, apparently you've got 200 launches then it won't do it anymore and it records them on the ECU.

To be fair, it was loads of fun and my friend in the car couldn't believe the acceleration. It really throws you back into your seat. I've now just got to be disciplined as it is addictive

    Hi,

Once you've got VCDS you will be able to read the launch control counter. Mine is still set to 0 because I haven't been brave enough to use it yet as I wanted the engine to have covered 10,000 miles before hand. I'm just being ultra cautious about running it in. It increments by 1 every time you use it.

I think the early ones were restricted to a low number but I'm pretty sure the new ones can be used as many times as you want.

From what I understand, the S-Tronic (DSG) launch control is different to the Tiptronic launch which I'm talking about here. The S-Tronic box has it as a selectable feature, whilst the Tiptronic (8 speed torque converter auto compared to the 7 speed DSG box) is done by following the above procedure.

Mines done 2400 miles and to be fair, I've never run in any new car I've had (and this is my 6th brand new car). I'm always careful for the first few hundred miles whilst the brakes etc bed in, but modern cars are so Advanced they don't really need running in, in my opinion.

I'm not patient enough to wait that long anyway

I almost soiled myself! The car is fast as it is, but that is just a completely different feeling. The new tyres (Pilot Sport 4 S) made a big difference I think... couldn't feel the car losing traction and the road was slightly wet.

All it does is get rid of the turbo lag as it's already spooled up. You know when you put it into Dynamic and then floor it, there is that second or so before your body gets pushed into your seat, it's just that straight away
