My car (2004 A4 Estate 2.0 FSI) is in the garage currently as it has started to cut out when driving. Apparently it needs the timing chain etc replacing which is going to be just under £600. The car has done 190k miles and apart from this new issue has been a great runner. The front arches have quite a bit of bubbling on the edges of the arch and I can see a bubble on the rear numberplate.

It also has a couple of dents etc from car parks etc.

What do I do? It still looks great as I think I have part of the S-line kit on it and it has the nice alcantara(?) and leather interior.

Insurance and tax are due this/next month so I'm favoring towards scrapping it as I have another spare car at home but it seems like a waste.

Ideally I should fix it, get a 12 month MOT (if I can without spending extra cash) and then sell privately but realistically what am I going to get for it? 700-1500?

What would you guys do and does anyone want it to break?

IF it is an EU4 emissions model as it may be then have it fixed and don't let go of it, cars like that are rare finds and as soon as the **** hits the fan over death by diesel, the values of cars like yours are going to rocket.

I'm in the same boat with my 2.5 BDG avant. Failed mot on some trivial stuff, but needs clutch and flywheel and cam belt. So much has been invested... fuel pump had the full Monty at diesel bobs!

But that's a diesel and in a year or so it won't be worth what a tank of Devils **** costs so there is no point saving it.
