In my job I periodically get to appraise CV's and have interviewed applicants from technician to graduate level. A CV with an unfinished apprenticeship would ring a few alarm bells for me, IMHO far better to complete the 'sparks' apprenticeship and college course (C&G ONC or whatever) even if it's not quite your thing, before moving onto mechanical or automotive. That way you will be more likely to be perceived as a 'multi skilled' technician or engineer, keen to learn new disciplines, rather than a butterfly. Spend time and get good advice on your preparing your CV, it needs to stand out among the rest. Gender is no barrier if you're looking to the right employers, if it is seen as such, then best avoid that company!
    Good luck.
