I'm just about to change the CV joint on my '06 Audi A3 8PA after getting a knocking noise that I suspected was drop links but when changing the drop links, noticed a split CV Gaiter and the drop links didn't fix the problem. What is the difference between £20 Pascal or Ridex joints/ £45 SKF joints or goodness knows how much OEM stock?

Is it worth the extra to go genuine? I know there will be some who will say that you wouldn't put anything else but OEM on your car but my budget will struggle to stretch to those prices. If they are largely the same, I would obviously rather pay £20. Wouldn't my local garage just fit one of these after market parts sourced from APD or ECP anyway?

Any 'in-the-know' advice is hugely appreciated.

45 for an skf sounds good value. do price up genuine though. a lot of the cheaper ones are reconned, dont last that long.. but some cheap ones are actually really good.
