Does it lock up or just crank slowly? The failure of a DMF can fill the starter with debris which slows it down.

You need to disable the injectors and with the diagnostic system showing rpm, crank the engine over to display the speed. The diagnostic system will take a few seconds to catch up when you start cranking so often it is a good 30 seconds of cranking to get a stable result. The speed achieved must not be less than 280rpm. Remember to clear the injector open circuit fault codes when you have finished.

Going back to the rough idle I have just had a rescan with vcds after the cam belt change my fuel reading is now 0.6 and my torsion value is -2.9 previously it was 0.4 and -3.9 are these readings ok also on the intermittent starting problem there was no fault codes stored and the engine speed is good something my friend mentioned is it could be the Ecu relay playing up i.e. No power to it on the occasions it does not start what's your thoughts on that

haha with that comment im guessing it's still out then could that be the reason of non starts then ? According to vcds it's within spec goes to show even vw can't get it right I don't suppose I can take it back for them to adjust especially as I've kicked up a stink over the alleged broken spring I did not have they have agreed to refund me on that 😉so looking directly at the cams which one adjusts the torsion value
