Took the chicken bone bus to TPS and picked up a set of new bolts (£7), better to be on the safe side I guess. Now the dilema still remains whether to tighten the bolts with the car on the ground or on axle stands??
I myself can't see any difference but I understand swwalkers statement about the 110 degree angle whilst in the air and 90 on the ground...those figures were just approximate I guess..

I'm gonna tighten to 40Nm + 1/4 turn as nobody has suggested otherwise, I assume that if the bolt holes match up both on axle stands or on the ground then there shouldn't be a difference.....must be an easy one for those in the know.................

Lol the numbers where plucked out of the air to give a visual.
I think you are stressing too much . Yes it's important to get it right but what's the risk? A premature clunk, skid on a wet day I suppose if the bolt lets go.

Hahaha yeah thanks fellas..... niall they do say that the very experienced mechanics can quite accuratley tighten things correctly just by feel...but that ain't me...unless I didn't have a torque wrench that is.

sw.... probably your right....with my beautiful motor I've got much bigger problems to think about anyway so I'll just crack on.
