Maybe your mechanic was trained by the Audi NSU mechanic who diagnosed the a drip on the edge of a rotor housing on my not quite 3-year-old Ro80 as an "internal water leak" which would soon cause the engine to "blow up". His solution was to replace the complete engine and torque convertor at enormous cost.

When I got home I found a slightly loose jubilee clip on a hose on the top of the engine, allowing a tiny amount of coolant to run down the joint between two housings.

I'm afraid it put me off Audi NSU dealers though, apart from the one in Reading, who was quite upset when I called him about the "problem" with the car he had just sold me, and the one in Blackpool, who was the only one I trusted to service the first (new) Ro80 I bought in .......... 1968. (What the heck)
