    Hi all,

My 2013 A6 is on a 2 year service interval but when it comes to oil i'd rather keep it yearly, so changed the oil over the weekend as it's been 1 year . Bought the Sealey V600 disptick and took a reading before doing anything, so i knew that the level coincided with the MMI reading (which was full).

After the change, the level was at halfway on the dipstick and halfway on the MMI (thanks Castrol for your 4litre containers instead of the normal 5) . I then drove to work and remembered that it would make sense to reset the oil service interval within MMI, so did that, it reset but when i went to check the level in MMI the level shows as having no oil at all (but no warning lights).

Any idea what's happened here? The MMI reading went from half to empty in a few seconds whilst sat in the car park. Very strange.

    Thanks

What's the actual reading with the dip stick?

Dipstick is showing half still (same as yesterday). MMI says no oil, but earlier was also showing half. Very odd :/

Have a look around where the connector is for the dipstick sensor. Also could be worth adding a little more oil to see what happens. Remember not to overfill though

Thanks, will check the connector tonight. It's strange as it seemed that selecting "reset interval" lost the reading. I was parked up at work in the morning, checked the level on MMI (to see if it changed during the drive, it had remained the same) then went to the menu to reset interval, checked back on the oil level and it had no reading. All happened within about 20 seconds. I thought maybe there's a way to request the sensor to take a new reading, but thinking that it's a "live" monitor taking readings every second?

I could be wrong but sure it needs some time to calibrate before it gives an accurate reading

Interestingly it picked up the new reading as soon as i started the car and the reading matched the dipstick, then didn't change on the drive to work. Will see what it's like tonight on the way home. Definitely needs a top up either way, waiting for some oil to arrive and then will add some in. Strange that there's no warning light if the oil is reading as below minimum (being such a critical part).

I seem to remember the mmi oil guage saying something like 'wait two minutes whilst the oil/engine warms up' before it provided a level reading... this after I did a pumped oil change myself... eventually it showed full... and has been fine ever since. So maybe just needs time to calibrate etc?

It's probably as gmonster says and the MMI doesn't give a reading for the first 2 mins or something like that. I've seen the message too but can't remember how it's worded.

Although...... did you change the oil filter too? Because if you did, after you have started it you will loose around half a litre of oil as it fills the filter / filter housing back up with oil.

Isn't the correct quantity nearer 6 litres, so if only has 4 litres in, it wont show on the MMI at all, but would set off a warning light you would think?
