You won't get the sump off without lifting the engine or lowering the subframe.

Still having trouble with the last 2 bolts closest to the flywheel, ive read you need to turn the flywheel round to a point where you can access the bolts...but the engine is seized is there another way?

I have just taken the sump off a Golf 5 TFSI and you have to position the flywheel AND use a ball ended hex key. If my memory is right there are two cut outs on the back of the flywheel.

Quick update, Ive manager to lift engine and drop subframe and got the sump off which is in good condition. The flywheel/clutch pressure plate seems to be in a mess! Has anyone come across this before or know whats caused it?

    Thanks for your help!

That's the springs inside your Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF) that you can see. They appear to have failed and totally ******* the flywheel itself. Looks like it's time for a new one. Probably need a new clutch while you're in there also. Be worth removing it and seeing if you can then turn the engine over by hand. It might be what is causing it to feel like it's seized.

Have a look at this video, skip to 1:30 and you will see what I mean about springs inside the flywheel.....

Yes I have seen that once or twice and it can make getting the flywheel off very difficult as the outer section can twist, lock and cover the bolt heads.

    Thanks thats a great help!

While most things are off at the front and engine is hoisted, would it be best to access the flywheel and clutch from the front or bottom?
