Hi, hope someone can point me in the right direction. I have an Audi 2.0tdi avant with 7speed cvt box. Last week car started losing power with a small amount of black smoke from exhaust(always clear up until now) glow plug light flashed for about 5 seconds and went out. car stalled and would not restart. Recovery came out, no codes at all. Possible EGR or blocked DPF he stated. Anyway, recovered me to home. Started the car when he left and started ok. Revved to about 3000rpm then it slowly dropped off regardless of throttle position and then cut out again. No EM lights. Car will start first time every time now but cuts out(peters out actually) within about 10 -15 seconds. It's almost like it's starved of air or fuel. Without being able to take it anywhere without recovery is there anything I can bypass/check/change? I have the Autel vag505 and multimeter but without manual I'm blind. Cheers for any assistance.

Not familiar with your model, but you could research and find out if it has an anti shudder valve, and then see if it is
opening / closing as it should. Maybe you could get a vcds scan by someone as a second opinion.

A blockage in the exhaust ie the dpf can cause this. When you start it the pressure builds up in the exhaust until the car won't run. When you leave it the pressure decays and you Are back to square one. Get someone to hold there hand over the exhaust while you start it to see if anything is coming out the rear.

my egr valve was behaving like this, but didn't actually cut out

I have the autel vag505 and it showed the fault when after a few days the fault light eventually showed

so stick the autel vag505 in your glove box until the glow plug starts flashing, then read the code
    VW POLO 2002 1.2 12v , Audi A6 2006 2.0 TDi SE , Skoda Fabia 1.4 TDi

All 3 cars in the current fleet
