Audi employed the worlds most untrained chimp about 18 months ago to remove my wheel to look at the brakes. This chimp scratched every wheel it removed, dropped the bolts down the alloy and clearly didn't give a F***.

Anyway, they agreed to repair one wheel which they did - after 9 months of fighting. And it came back a different shade.

Anyway, I decided enough was enough and got all 4 redone this week. I used a local company who did all 4 wheels, acid dipped, repaired any damage (all was minor and probably went with the acid dip), powder coated and baked. They look stunning. He also fitted my new tyres and disposed of the old ones. Looking forward to getting the winters off and these on tomorrow.

This was as I got them back..

In detail... (it's just a reflection not a scratch)

And with autoglym tyre shine on....

Nicely done! I used to get mine done at Wheel Worx in Gatwick and that was once a year for all 4 wheels every year for 7 years ! But with the diamond cut alloys, the A6 was treated VERY carefully and so no marks...until I got the A7 with 21" rotors and 2 weeks in...to the day, scrape

So I'll be joining the refurb A7 club very soon

please let me know how the rotor refurb goes, two of mine are bubbling and one instance of the silver edge flaking, I thought the edges were polished but there seems to be a paint coating.

    Looking nice M1tchy.

I destroyed my 21" rotor last week. Hit a curb pretty hard and split the wheel and popped the tyre .

    Attachment 32983Attachment 32984

    Attachment 32982

Contacted audi for a quote, £1300 for a wheel and £400 for the tyre!!!!!!!! Ouch!!!! . Was expecting it to cost a bit but not £1700. Luckily afterwards I spoke to a refurb company called Xtreme alloys who said they can send it away to get repaired and once repaired they will diamond cut it back to its original state for £215. I thought great lets go for it. Managed to pickup another tyre for £240 so feeling happier. Until today when I collected the wheel. Repair looked brilliant, paint work looked brilliant and then I fitted the wheel to the car and noticed one big issue, the wheel is a slightly lighter grey than my current wheels!!!!!!!!. I took the car back to xtream alloys to highlight my concern to only find out that they have used the correct paint but looks like my wheels have previously been diamond cut and painted with the wrong paint, they proved this to me by showing the depth difference on each wheel compared to a new wheel proving the current wheels have been cut. Plus the wheel they done matched the centre caps where my current wheels are slightly darker.

This annoyed me, I bought the car brand new straight from the factory just over a year ago. This means audi must have damaged my wheels between it being shipped from the factory to my local dealer and repaired them before me collecting it. This wouldn't be too bad if they were standard wheels but where they are diamond cut you can only cut the wheels a couple of times. Two of the 3 wheels are down to under 1mm when the new one is more like 2-3mm meaning I can only cut them 1 or 2 times before needing to replace the wheel if I need to get rid of any scuff marks. The damage must have been pretty bad for them to cut 1 to 2mm off.

So my question is, do I

Complain to audi about the lack of wheel left and not being informed that they diamond cut the wheels before I received the car plus the paint they used was different to factory paint?

Or do I not bother complaining to audi as to be honest the aftercare I have received has'nt been great and instead just get the other wheel cut and painted to match the recently repaired one so both wheels match on the same side. It's only a slight difference, you can only notice it when you put another wheel near it.

To make maters worse I have only just replaced all four tyres in January because the inside side walls were splitting on all four tyres, they still had over 50% of their life left, only 9 months and 10,000 miles old. I took them back to audi and they agreed they shouldnt be splitting like that so they kept my car in for 3 weeks waiting for their tyre specialist to inspect them only to tell me afterwards that they needed to send the tyres back to Dunlop and this will take 3 months and I would need to pay for the new tyres and Dunlop will refund me for the remaining tread once they confirm there was a defect with the tyres.. This was 4 months ago now and so far I haven't heard anything. Arghhh!

But I must say even though I've had a pretty bad time with my car over the last 4 months I still bloody love it. Its a great looking car with brilliant tech inside. The only thing I would have changed about it is the wheels. They get damaged to easy especially with the pot holes around where I live and work. Look nice but damage to easily, tyres cost a bomb,

So what would you do? Complain to audi or just pay to get another wheel cut to match the recently refurbed one?

I'd complain. I am not the most diplomatic and highly sarcastic in my complaints but I do follow them through. Take it in and ask for a manager, when one rocks up say not you, your boss or someone who can make large financial decisions. That seems to get their attention!

Wow, those splits are terrible - not acceptable for tyres at those prices. Would guess a faulty batch?
And to be refunded for the remaining tread, that's a p*ss take! Sounds like the dealership has done a 'job' on those wheels, and palmed them off to you mate. I would defo go back and tear them a new one. Make them replace the tyres or give you another set to use whilst you wait for the decision from Dunlop (would be interesting to see when they were fitted if they're OEM). As for the paint on the wheels, they've sold you 'incorrect' merchandise - so that just tops off the above.
(*actually, tell them you want a discount of 50% on the wheel price you paid, as they've cut them already and sold them as 'new', so you're only able to make one more cut yourself. Essentially they've 'Halved' the life of your wheels

Sorry you're in that position mate - but keep pressing them, they'll want to keep a customer happy especially when it comes to trade in time... otherwise take it higher (General Manager etc, then Group - who will take the dealership to town).

Wish you all the best of luck!
