I have a Touran 2.0 TDI Sports DSG Auto 2005 which has A MFD2 fitted.

Is it possible to upgrade this unit to the RNS510?

    Is it a simple swop?

    Thanks in advance

    Desmond

Physically the swap is fairly straightforward in that they are both the same size and fit. However you'll need to get an updated canbus gateway ( I think it's an "L" or later you need but I think I also heard that "F" might be ok as well - refers to the last digit of the part number) or you'll get battery drain issues. Have a search on the forum for this as there's plenty about it on here. You'll need VCDS to set up and configure the gateway to your vehicle once fitted (again there's plenty about that on here) and you'll also need to buy an adapter for the fakra diversity aerial as VW changed them slightly for the RCD310 & 510 series (£15ish on eBay or amazon). Good news is it's all doable with a bit of knowledge and the gateway is reprogrammable so you can use 2nd hand units not just new so a donor car after 2007 should see you up and running.
