Well, as they say, onward and upwards and all that jazz...

Now I've got my Side Assist Retrofit out the way it left the door wide open (no pun intended) to do my soft close door upgrade. The official Audi term for this is "Power Latching"

One advantage of retrofitting it is that you can do it on a door-by-door basis. you don't need to do all the doors at once, so given the front Passenger door is the one that doesnt like to close the most, I figured it was the best one to start on.

You need a new door lock (a huge number of variants as well), door latch motor (the motor that drags the door in), few bits of plastic/screws/washers and a bit of extra wiring. Now, I will point out I haven't started this yet, but I went to start only to find I was missing some wires.. doh.. but irrespective, I have it all documented (including the coding) and so when me little wires show up, its game on.

Here is a couple of starter pics when I was doing some "figuring out what needs to be done"

Door Panel Off (again for about the 1000 time)

    Bose Speaker Unit out

Here is the existing non power latching door lock that is factory installed in my car
(The black plastic you can see on the top right is the inside of the door handle)

    factory door lock.jpg

And here is my new power latching door lock ready to go in...

    power latch door lock.jpg

Bit of wiring, couple of new connectors and should be (hopefully) job done... I'm envisaging an hour per door... I only have the parts for this door right now mind you...

Keep you posted if your interested.

    Ta

    Andy

Was about £50 off ebay.. but you need more than just the motor...

So bit of an update.. Finally got round to finishing this during the afternoon in the sun today

Overall, its not a complex job, but it is time consuming... however I'm chuffed with the end result. The passenger door is done at least

The biggest work is swapping the actual door lock, getting the old one out, new one in, all the new wiring needed and changing over wires as well, that is the time consuming piece.

Here are some pics and videos showing it in action. I did some videos with the internal door trim off as well so you can see the motor pulling the door in.

This will be added to my retrofit repertoire for anyone wishing me to do this for you at my place. I would say 1.5/2 hours per door.

    Enjoy

    Cheers

    Andy

Fair play Andy lol love the videos mate. Don't know how you do it. Top job I have a huge desire to do it as it's the one thing that irritates me is the door close

Me neither. If I had a go, I reckon after 1.5/2 hours work, I'd need a replacement door.
