Don't want to appear dramatic, just clearing that if there IS something wring, I'd rather fix it earlier than later.

And if it needs fixing, an indy will get my money

Up in smoke: the VW emissions fix has left our car undriveable

It used to go into ‘regeneration mode’ [whereby soot collected in a filter is burnt off at high temperature to leave only a tiny ash residue] a few times a year, but now does it on almost every journey.
“I am concerned at the long-term impact this will have. If the car is regenerating every day, what will this do to the lifespan of the EGR [exhaust gas recirculation] valve and the rest of the exhaust system, which cost thousands to fix if they go wrong?” Harrison says. “I am in the process of fighting with the dealership that completed the modification to get it to accept that there is a fault with the car – but all I’m getting is denials.
VAG says that out of 480,000 fixes applied, there have only been 3,600 complaints.
After the update our car was returned with the engine light on. At first they couldn’t figure out why, then said an air intake actuator would need to be replaced and would cost me £600.
Dieselgate: Volkswagen cars lose power after fix

Some cars have gained power and have a higher fuel consumption, but most cars have lost performance. Both torque and power have decreased after Volkswagen’s fix. The loss is as much as ten percent and in addition to that the torque curve has shifted. This means having to push down harder before the acceleration sets in – which makes the car feel weaker. On top of this the tests often show an increase in fuel consumption after the Volkswagen fix.

I use an OBDeleven. They're great, good app and it can automatically perform some of the most common coding functions with the push if a single button, like VIM enabling, Lock/unlock beep and loads more.

VCDS is not as class leading as it used to be ESPECIALLY where late European spec cars are concerned and more so with Audi, I am finding some terrible holes in its coverage and I am so ****** off with it I have set myself up with full legal and registered dealer level ODIS (getting a mortgage is easier) but that is too slow and expensive to use in general work so I have been looking at VAG CAN PROFESSIONAL - official site - VAG CAN PROFESSIONAL which seems to be gaining an excellent European based reputation.

Could anyone tell me whether any 2.0 TDI has the red exhaust icon on the dash at all?

The only warning icon I've got on the dashboad is the same as this one:

The manual refers to the one above as "related to emissions", but just below that entry, describes another warning / fault mentioning regen etc... It's the one in the picture below, but red.

So what you're saying is you had the emmission 'fix' done last october, now you have the yellow 'check engine' light on the dash and don't know why, as it hasn't been scanned yet (but could well be related to the EGR valve ) and you don't have the red DPF warning light lit up on the dash, so no problems with the DPF soot loading or back pressure as far as you know (your's will have a DPF and the red warning light somewhere on the dash just not lit up).
Get it scanned and check up on EGR valve and cooler problems.

Yep. I'd think 31k is a bit on the low side to have EGR problems (regardless of emissions fix)

I've ordered a dongle but trying to find out what I can as it has not been shipped yet :/

    Got the Carista dongle today.
    Scanning is very slow!

It found a P2196 fault, an others need the pro version. I've contacted carista as I was supposed to get a free one month trial of their pro version but that does not seem to be working.

Anyhow, that does not seem to point out to EGR valve?
Here's the info: P2196 OBD-II Trouble Code: O2 Sensor Signal Stuck Rich (Bank 1 Sensor 1) | YourMechanic Advice

Would the specialists here agree with the conclusion that
"If your Check Engine Light is on steady and not flashing, then this code is only as serious as how bad your car is running. At the worst, it will run very rough and obvious. At best, you will experience poor fuel mileage."?
If so I won't be in a hurry to sort it out as the car is still purring, and might wait until servicing time (car will hardly be used over the summer hols as I'll car share).
I'm on spritmonitor so should know very quickly the effect on fuel consumption.

Edit: on another note, are there any apps that you know of that would happily work with the Carista dongle from your experience?
