I've fitted a set of discs and pads a few months ago, from TPS's 4+ range to my 12 year old passat, they were comparable cost to ECP etc. and have a good degree of QA behind them, as with everything these days there's so much chinese rubbish it pays to look beyond the price!!!
I remember a few years back being in a tyre shop for winter tyres and a lad in an X5 was arguing the toss over tyre prices, wanting the tyre guy to find him part worns, the guy was looking at getting part worns vanned up form somewhere else, I'm thinking FFS just get something you can afford to run.

my 20 year old 357,000 mile 80. i had the s4 but that was a bit too much , got fed up of putting fuel in it, hard decision but she had to go.
problem is, finance is dished out left right and centre on big expensive cars, but not everyone looks at the bigger picture, the cost of services, brakes, tyres etc... and for a big old q7 you need big deep pockets..

People who buy cars they can't afford to run drives me nuts. When you buy a car you need to know you can afford to carry out the necessary maintenance the vehicle requires to keep it roadworthy and reliable, buying part worns or Chinky tyres because that is all you can afford is wrong, you should by a car with maintenance requirements you can afford. Quite a lot of people look at the old shed I drive and wonder why I don't get something newer, you know being a successful business man and all that **** and I say it is because it is all I can comfortably afford to run without having to think about, budget or worry about routine maintenance costs, although obviously those are lower for myself than normal, I can just do it and not worry. The reality is that Mrs Crasher won't let me have anything else....

It's not the money I am worried about. I just wanted to check if what the dealer said sounded correct due to that conflict of interest.

I had a Q3 before this and did 25k over 2 years in it. They said it wasn't quite ready for a service and were happy with the tires, brakes and everything when I traded it in for the Q7.

On the Q7 I have done 4 tyres @£900, a service at £584 and soon to be brakes at £1,000 in 1 year and 18k miles. I know they are not the same car but that is a big difference.

It seems like I am the first to need brakes on a 4m Q7, which I also find a bit strange.

You had a Q3 for two years/25000 miles and it wasn't once serviced?
