Buy your own legal registered VCDS cable or find a local VAG specialist, EVERY part of the UK has dozens of them.

Mechanic had the car this morning, said there were 3 or 4 fault codes (didnt tell m what they were) and cleared them all, and said to contact him as soon as the ECS light comes on again - He did say something about the camshaft sensor though?

Why don't garages give people a printed report? EVERY code read we have EVER done EVER is saved on our server under the number plate and every code read we do for someone gets printed out and given to them with their bill, after all it is what you have paid for. It is something that really annoys me, I know why they are doing it, they want to withhold information that prevents you from fixing it and that I do get but it isn't on, if you pay for a code read you pay for a service, if you don't like the potential result, don't offer the service! On some professional forums I go on, I often get stick for the advice I give on forums open to the public.

    Right, an update people...

Been using the car for a few days, 10 miles a day, same ECS light came on as I got to work, so thought I'd call the AA. They scanned it and the only code they found was

    'P0021 Camshaft sensor'

Any ideas, as I was half expecting a coil pack given how it ran last time one went down?
