    Morning folks.

Yes, it has happened. Car conked out on SWMBO yesterday. The AA brought the car home and did a scan and said No.1 injector had failed. I took the cam cover off last night and disconnected that injector but the car still wouldn't start. I reset the faults using VCDS but still no joy. I have a couple of questions I would be really grateful if anyone could help.

    (1) From the autoscan (see below) how do I know it is No.1 cylinder? (This is the one nearest the cambelt, right?)
    (2) What is the best way to pull the connectors off the injectors? I managed to get No.1 off but the others were not having it and I didn't want to break anything by being hamfisted.
    (3) Where is the best place to buy a new injector? Also, the loom as I may replace that too.

    cheers
    Rob

Yes no1 is nearest the timing belt. It should run with that injector disconnected.if it is that injector. There is a tool for removing the plug with out the tool it's going to have to be pull and pray. I would also check the resistance of that injector across both terminals and from each contact to the body of the injector. Compare it with the others. You don't want to find resistance from each contact to the body of the injector. They cost a fortune for genuine. . and you will have to do your homework on finding a good deal.

Darkside do the injectors and loom Engine Parts - Injectors and Parts - Page 1 - Darkside Developments

Not cheap at £435 / £475 plus VAT but much cheaper than VW who I hear charge £700 - £800 a piece. Other than that you are left with the dealer for new or the usual auction sites for new (supposedly), used, refurbished or remanufactured items.

@OP -- Although VWUK are claiming that their injector recall's "closed", check whether your engine qualifies.
It does not if the recall's already been done (23H9) sticker on your spare wheel well, or check with dealer service who'll
tell you if your VIN's listed as having been done.
Or if your engine code's not listed in the recall notice. What's yours?
Or if your injectors are not of the specified old Bosch type

Some owners late last year were still getting this done but only under a "goodwill" gesture -- whatever that means.
Others were having to argue with VWUK who may relent.

If the wiring loom shows faulty after a recall's change of injectors, then that's changed out too. They do go faulty what with only having one earth return. And the heat that's there.
Same loom fault happened on my tFSI when I had the coils' recall done. They changed it out FOC

The car does not have the sticker in the boot so it looks like it missed the recall. I have contacted VW UK who stated that the campaign has finished but are nevertheless checking my car's details to see if I am covered. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for this! I may start by trying a 2nd hand injector while the discussion does on with VW.

It seems Mr AA got things the wrong way around. I disconnected No.4 injector (furthest from the cambelt) and the old girl fired up on the other three!

I'm guessing it is not a good idea to drive the car on 3 cylinders?

Bit of an update. I bought a secondhand injector, swapped it over and put everything back together. Engine started and ran rough for a few seconds then cut out. Won't restart now. I disconnected the dodgy injector again but it won't even run on three now.

I'm still getting the same error messages on VCDS so I'm not sure what the hell is up now.

Might have to replace the loom itself to be sure - they don't like being disturbed and after a long while in heat and oil the wiring is easily broken.
