So iv been having mmi issues which i posted on a seperate thread, i have 3g high with nav, anyways after being given the run around by local so called specialists i paid audi for diagnostic (£60). Waited almost 3 hours and technician came back with estimate for repair - faulty 5f module £2860 what the ****. Im sure they didnt take anything apart to check for loose connections so 3 hours to plug in their computer and diagnose.

The cars only worth £6k so paying that to get a fix is out of the question. I rang audi back up to get the part number so i could another on ebay or breaker but i cant believe they wouldnt give it to me, what a joke.

Im gna try and take the centre controls out as im sure i spilt some pepsi on there which i wiped clean a few months back. Im not good with cars so going to be a big job for me.

Where can i find a step by step guide to remove the centre console on my B8 and what tools are needed to give it a good clean. If this doesnt work can somebody please advise on how to take the 5f module out of the dash so i can get the part number to try snd find a replscement. I guess if i find one ill have to get CP removed from audi, another £150, any help would be appreciated this has gone on for too long, thanks

Yes, thats the result of dealer(new unit with install etc).

HNav mainunit in uk should be:

8T2035670(WITH SIM) and 8T2035666(NO SIM SLOT). You can get correct number from guy who did your first autoscan, he should have it, vcds module address 5F!

You need similar keys to take mainunit out:
    http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/...CtV/s-l225.jpg

Sometimes if you lucky, you can cut those from "old plastic card(credit, debit etc) and you will get mainunit out also! (no warranty it will work always).

    Remove centre console DIY:

This is how to remove the center console trim

5F controller is removed by 2 radio removal keys at the bottom, click them into it and the unit will pull out. There are various connections so be careful not to stretch anything especially the fibre optics.

The mmi control panel is removed by removing the gearstick gator then pull the console up from the bottom .. the panel will then be removed.

No, its not important, letter just gives idea about production date and software number. It will work regardless of letter! You can update it later anyway, link you find few threads below

    Not sure how to disassemble.

As for the part number; you would be better off finding someone local to you with a VAGCOM diagnostic lead (or similar). A global scan will highlight the part numbers and software revisions of all of the control modules in the car. They might even see something that the VAG technicians missed as they chase faults rather than globally scanning all modules.

For example, this is mine (ignore the fault, I've fixed it now ):

This cd charger will work on your car, but you still need main unit also(it will not replace the main unit)! Sw management error usualy comes with sw and map updates and with small play in green menu also etc, its not dangerous fault and system will work regardless! With vcds and tweak of one adaption channel you can get rid of this, but its not important
