GT Sport tdi 170 DPF replacement

Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone has had to replace there DPF on the BMN engine? I went into the VW dealer today to price it up along with the rest of the exhaust.
I was looking underneath the car yesterday and noticed that the complete exhaust system is very rusty and exhaust appears to be blowing slightly. Also the DPF looks rusted and corroded. To the point where I dare not touch it as i dont want it to fall apart.
The cost for the parts alone were as follows:
DPF- £1400
Center exhaust section- £220
Rear back box- £320
Does anyone know if there is a cheaper alternative or will it be dealer price only. The car only has 59,000 miles. I though the thing should last longer than that.

What makes you think it needs replacement?

Just the fact that it is really rusted and where it connects onto the center section the is a black soot patch which makes me think its blowing. How long do DPF's last?

Most exhausts will look rusty. Get a garage to check it out.
If it aint broke don't fix it.
