I think it is wrong that diesel owners should be penalised, especially when most bus's, heavy lorries and taxis that are in these towns kick out more pollution than anything... Just like the bus I was parked behind at traffic lights with "LOW EMISSION BUS" in big letters.... I had to wait for the smoke to clear before I could see.....

There are a lot of things out there that cause pollution just another case to aim it at the motorist....

They think people can just ditch there diesels and buy a petrol or other form of fuel, don't they realise that cars cost a lot of money these days... I for one will be getting a petrol or hybrid in the next 12-18 months, not due to the hate of diesels, but the fact that I do not do many miles (18000 in 3 years) but I would have no DPF to worry about, even though I have never (touch wood) had an issue...

New diesel cars must satisfy strict Euro 5/6 pollution standards, which require a new car, 4WD or SUV travelling 20,000 km to year to emit less than 0.1 kg of PM2.5. In contrast, the NSW EPA estimates that a new wood heater will emit 9.8 kg of health-hazardous PM.25 per year. Thus a brand new AS4013 heater emits as many PM2.5 in 10 hours as a new car does in an entire year and a heater burning 2 tonnes of firewood will emit 19.6 kg of PM2.5, as much as 196 diesels or the exhaust emissions from 1000 petrol cars!

Lets face it.... petrol less MPG .... motorist needs to buy more fuel.... MORE TAX !!!! naff all to do with health, just thinking of there pockets...

I swapped my 1.4 petrol Seat Ibiza for a 1.6 TDi Skoda Rapid in June last year... I do almost 100 miles a day 4 days a week... based on the same period, June to December I have used £400 LESS fuel... that's £400 of my hard earned cash that they have not had tax on....

I wonder how this calculates out if the whole picture is factored in. I have for example a perfectly good, highly fuel efficient Audi diesel estate (50+mpg). I also have a modern diesel motorhome. If these vehicles suddenly drop a lot in value, unsaleable as a result of a governmental knee-jerk, how can I replace them? A motorhome with electric power unit or petrol / hybrid?? Or my large estate that is more efficient than even the latest Audi equivalents... They don't and won't ever exist at any price I can afford.

What happens to the engines and bodywork of these vehicles when recycled, where does the energy to recycle them come from? And the eco cost of replacements. What is the real dust to dust impact?

Yes, by all means aim to phaze out older vehicles or retrofit eco friendly systems, nobody wants to be subject to pollution from any source,but to try to wipe out diesels (and their owners) in entirety is madness. What about all of the commercial vehicles, are they all to be abandoned in the next couple of years?
