Hello, I am looing for a Q7 to replace my ageing X5 E53. I am in France so specs and marketplace will differ but appreciate this forum's wisdom on my question re choice:

I have found the perfect spec - adaptive cruise, xenon, side assist, open sky, camera, 2006, c120k miles, asking €17k (I expect to negotiate) - as a guide, sellers are asking €12-25k for Phase 1 models.

However, I am now seeing Phase 2 2009 models priced under €20k. But the specs seem lower, maybe a reverse camera but few with LEDs and still share same 3.0tdi and 6-speed box. The 3G MMI is an attraction though.

So should I settle for older, cheaper, higher spec Phase 1, or wait for the right Phase 2 model? Beyond the facelift and MMI, are there any other real differences?

    My budget is c€20k thanks

For me, given your budget, I would buy a phase 1 car with plenty of spec and small mileage if you can find one.
I think it's only worth paying the extra for a Phase 2 car if you could afford a 2011 car with the 8 speed Auto. They are nicer to drive and much better on fuel.
Here in Ireland, a 2011 Q7 would be €35K+. I presume it would not be that much cheaper in France.
In terms of looks, phase 2 front & rear lights can be retrofitted easy enough if want the slightly more modern look.
    See Kufatec for prices.
MMI 3G is better but not worth paying extra for.

Sorry, forgot to add. Get Air Suspension if you can, it's well worth having if it's not standard on the French versions.

many thanks and good advice, surprisingly I've found a few 2011 models with the 8 speed for just over €25k (125k kms) but I'd have to travel 1000kms just for viewing, and the spec isn't quite as good. I think I'll concentrate on Phase 1s in my area and save the money for the tyres. And yes my minimum spec is Air suspension and Camera...thx
