    Hey guys,

I recently changed the oil on my b5.5 passat. It's the 2.0 tdi awx engine.
The sump plug will not properly tighten, I can hand tighten it ok, but using a ratchet with any kind of leverage just makes it spin round and round.

For now, it's hand tightened and covered in instant gasket, but I need to get it properly fixed.

Is the only option a new sump? I've heard that the bolt doesn't reach threads further into the hole, and if i make a longer bolt it can reach the undamaged threads and solve the problem. Is that true?

some specialists will carry a sump plug repair kit, basically tap the sump out to a larger thread and fit a new larger plug, job done. or a recoil thread insert can be used.

Get it fixed , buy a magnetic sump plug and an oil extractor and never visit it again .

    Btw it's a 1.9 .
