    Hi,

I've had a look through this forum and couldn't come up with any answers. Its a shame but i think my 1995 Audi A4 will have to be scrapped even though it is mechanically sound.

It won't start for more than a couple of seconds before stalling. Was led to believe this is in relation to the immobiliser, flashing orange light on the dash that won't go out.

I replaced the reader coil and bought a new ignition barrel and keys from Audi as the ignition reader is integrated and believed that would help fix it. Trouble is, Audi sold me that part but don't have the software that goes that far back to code the keys. All auto-electircans i've tried don't have software for a car that old.

I'm a bit miffed that Audi Uk still sell a part that they don't have the software to code and hope they will be able to refund me.

Does anyone have any hope for me or is it the end of the road for my Audi?

as a last resort you could get someone to de code the immobiliser. and you are right, its a crying shame to scrap a classic when it can be fixed.

You need one of those guys who come round and code it at your address. Had one done a few year's back. He only charged me £30. Have a look in the local yellow pages . Under vehicle keys / lock smiths

Also I think you can buy something on ebay that plugs into the obd port and bypasses the immobiliser.

Or like Zollaf said or you can buy a plug and play ecu with the immobiliser coded out. Plenty of options really and all less than £100.

Thanks zollaf and Flapperjack. Much appreciate the response, I've tried ringing a few independent locksmith and auto-electricians and they've all said their equipment doesn't go that far back. I'm afraid i'm not very technical with cars but can google 'plug and play ecu' and see if thats an option. Would be more than happy to bypass the immobiliser but maybe its time to replace it, all this aggro has made me think whether or not I need to get another car. Its just a shame its an issue thats electrical rather than mechanical that may bring an end to the car.

I had the same problem with my old B5 1.8T.
Audi wanted to change the Ignition barrel, key reader, new keys. When i asked would this solve the problem they said its hard to say if it would.
I did read about a longer wire from the back of the barrel that went a different path away from interference from the key reader(i think).
It was a single Black wire @ £18 from Audi but i didnt get round to it before i scraaped her for multiple other issues.
