As my mmi automatically shuts off after few minutes will the software update not get interrupted as it can take around 40 mins to complete from what i understand, my mmi will restart ten times in that time!!
So i checked the mmi version information after 3 minutes and it still says null under sw and nothing under nav!

You need perform optical/electric test before update as i showed above, at the present time its not possible do get right diagnose(via internet its not possible to say 100% why your mmi restarts and freezes all the time). Any of mmi modules might be faulty, so at the present time do not perform any update. If opticalbus test results are ok or only main unit fault, you may try run update, but normal update may not go anyway and you may need to start emergency update with first sw 022 instead, but it maybe to tricky etc for you and if mainunit is faulty and no go with normal or emergency update, you probably need to send mainunit to repair! But yes, you have 3G high if you have joystick, so HNav software is for you!

As you see everything is if, because its internet, not proper diagnose of the MMI - sry!

I just had issues with my mmi and even audi were stumped and after £400 I got my car back and did it myself. I found a local guy using 404 Not Found and paid £20. He did an optical device diagnosis and it came up with telephone error on the optical side. Now after some research I found that it wasn't the telephone but whatever was before that which in my case was the amp so I did a loop break test on all of the modules and nothing. I then realised that you can shine a torch down an optic cable so used that to trace where they go and made a map of which order. Turns out one of the fibre optic cables was damaged between the CD changer and Bluetooth module. Hope this helps in some way.
