    Hello,

I got a really good deal on oil, quantum fully synth long life oil, 5w30, 20 litres for £80.00.

    Two questions..

Is this the best oil for higher mileage cars, as mine has done 130k?

How many litres of oil does a 4.2 tdi use?

    Thanks

    Niaz

I know, but I was thinking more of 5w 40.

Even though it is long life I may do a service at 10k, as I am not doing as much motorway mileage anymore. Also flipping hard to 70mph due to roadworks and zillions of cars on the road

5w40 is the way I would go at 130k, yes the engine is barely run ( providing it's stuck to service intervals) but it's still at 130k so the thicker oil will prevent any oil leaking via oil seals etc.

    Quantum LongLife III 5W30 V Quantum Platinum 5W40 505.01.

    1 Centistoke difference @ 100°C = a gnats wisker...

That wisker still makes it the thicker option now doesn't gaz ,

@ 130k nobody ask it's service history, did they?

Also nobody asked if it had oil leaks,, did they?

So on the theory that it has 130k on the clock and no mention of how many previous owners in my opinion the better option would be 5w40.

    Jesus wept...

Do you realise what 1 Centistoke is ?

If the goal post shifted by 0.50 the 5W30 LongLife III would be a 40 grade .

Oil is about quality and quality is gained through oil basestock groups and additive package concentration in which LongLife III is superior .

It's the difference of medium quality oil Vs high quality oil .

Jesus wont do you no favours on a forum mate so why call for him lol,

Look 1 centistroke or not it's still thicker, also if you would care to explain the theory behind 1 centistroke then please feel free ( without the help of Google just pure knowledge pls).

The vauxhall z16xe engine for example, now this has a reputation of drinking oil from the factory @ 1 litre per 500 mile and 1 litre per 300mile on a engine with over the 100k, but if the oil is changed to a thicker spec then it doesn't drink as much.

So given that oil seals wear etc wouldn't make sense to add that bit thicker oil to prevent leakage.
Also long life oil, yes it's great stuff with all the additives but do you remember the long life gearbox oils?, that didn't prevent how the gearbox was used and condensation build up within the oil weakening the oil.

I think a good quality oil change at 10k or every 6months 5/40 is perfect for the op.
