Want to replace my xenon lights with ordinary halogen bulbs. Is this even remotely possible? Have replaced my lights twice in past year due to drivers side constantly blowing. Mechanic now thinks it may be an ignitor problem, but before I bring it in to be fixed I was wondering if bulbs could be changed to halogen as the brightness and range with xenon is not great.

2nd part of my question for the past few mornings when I switch on my car, I get a message to say my battery is low, could this also be part of my light problem or just signaling that I will need a new battery.

It's possible but not that easy as the wiring configurations are different between halogen and xenon.

Why not buy a ballast for it? Genuine ones aren't dear on eBay.

Your low battery warning is probably your old original, 7 year old battery just starting to give up.

I have the same car and replaced my battery 6 months ago for the same reason. Don't go to Audi ££££££, I got a Varta, same physical size and layout but higher capacity from Halfords for £99 - was on offer

Also, not going down the sucking of eggs route, but I connected a jump pack under the bonnet while I changed the battery and had no issues after as some seemed to have - Audi will tell you that stye need 1 hour of Techy time (£99+VAT) to reprogram the energy management system to say its a new battery - All's been working well for me so I guessed its that smart, it worked it out..

As for the lights, I can't help but I thought the Xenons had a great light pattern and range; just my humble opinion but I can see you not wanting to keep replacing parts - if its some sort of surge issue, the halogens may blow too...?

my tuppins worth on the new battery reprogram.
I replaced the wifes in her BM everyone said you have to tell the IBS it will not charge right...
i reasoned it out that charging demands change, most obvious is from winter - lights, seat heaters etc to summer less electric load, and we dont have to tell it about this, so it has to be smart in its own right and figure it out.
could be different if you change capacities however.

I think the biggest issue with hids is the cut off is so accurate and severe you dont get any bleed over of light like you do with halogens, so you literally can only see as far as the cut off, whereas with halogens you can get an inkling theres something ahead bit like an early warning system.
