I've had a search through the forums and can't seem to find a thread, could just be me not looking in the right places. Anyway, I need to fit a new back box on my 2009 passat b6 2.0 tdi, I've fitted my own back box in the past but only on an older car, my problem is that my passat still has the factory exhaust so I'm going to have to cut it to fit the aftermarket replacement. I already have the back box due to having access to quite a big discount at ECP so I didn't really want to take it to a garage and waste money.

Having never cut an exhaust before, Does anyone have any tips on what cutting tool to use? Also how do I know where to cut and is it safe enough to do with axle stands and chocks?

    Thanks in advance

use a ratcheting exhaust tube cutter and use the new back box to work out where to make the cut. yes, anything is safe enough on axle stands.

no probs. they are a pain to use really, just a bit time consuming and you need to squeeze quite tight, but its far far better than removing the zorst and using a hacksaw.

A hacksaw? Stick a cutting disc on the old angle grinder would be my off the car choice.
