Hi, I have a 2006 55 plate gt tdi. Great car when the heating works........

It started a few months ago where the heating would not always work. On spending time fiddling around I found if I mixed the footwell to the front vents then it would blow a bit of hot. Then other times it would work ok. It all happened around the same time as the Emissions light came on.

I read some forums and checked a few things, one being the vent motors that sit behind the glovebox, that was not moving with the temp set. SO I changed that, it started to work but the heating was still dodgy. I got hacked off with the EGR valve so put a blanking pipe in, removed the egr cooler and flushed the coolant and replaced new. It did seem to work a bit more often but is still intermittent.

I am just not sure what to try next. I have a new stat that I intend to fit.

The dial for mixing has gone really stiff, I may try a new heating controller off ebay.

    Anyone else had similar???

go for the new heating controller first if its stiff

are the pipes leading to the bulkead nice and hot when car is up to temp ie if you put the heater to its hottest setting and run the fan for say 5 minutes, are both pipes nice and hot ?

could be a blocked heater matrix

That makes a lot of sense. Even when blowing cold I can mix it to get a bit of heat, so presumably both pipes must be hot.

I have ordered a new controller. Fingers crossed

I have just got back from fitting the new controller and it does exactly the same.......

If I have it blasting from front vents, heat on full it blows cold. Then as I mix in footwell, so the dial is halfway between each it adds hot.

Only thing left before a matrix is the stat... get frustrating
