These are vertical valves and there's a small chance they are ok as valves that are on angle usually get bent to buggery. If compressions are ok then the repair is possible without cylinder head removal.

He had to drill out wider than the old bolt so it now has a step down bolt, m12 in the head and m10 protruding. Is it possible to get that all welded up and rebored? I think I'd sleep better.

Also so where do I stand on driving it? Is it a matter of what's done is done or will I be making it worse and this more expensive to repair? I've already done about 50 miles.

I'll get the rocker cover taken off tomorrow and see where I'm at after that. I'll post back.

cheers for the help, at least I've now got a starting point

So we got the rocker cover off and had a good look.... 1 of the rocker arms looks slightly bent, is not seated like the others and also has a very small amount of up and down play in it unlike the others but nowhere near enough to push it back in.

Im thinking for the sake of a £50 rocker arm and an hours labour surely it's worth swapping it and seeing what happens or is that completely pointless? Does that mean there's definitely damage to at the very least the valves on that cylinder?? Could the cambelt going only have damaged 1 rocker arm and nothing else? Obviously keep in mind the car has been driven over 50 miles in this condition.

Again, I just don't want to waste a penny if it's gonna be a rebuild regardless

Sounds like a knaffed rocker. Has a built in compensator. From memory they are about £16 each. The fact it drives and turns over by hand would indicate that the valves might be ok. Hard to be sure without a compression test though. Had one once that came in with same problem as you. Tensioner stud failed at 60 mph. We drilled it and tapped it to m10. Run it and had a slight misfire. Compression was all ok. We fitted 16 new rockers and it was perfect.
