This code apparently means Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor Circuit Range/Performance. A quick google suggests that it could be a) a split vacuum hose [doesn't look like it in my case] b) turbo actuator diaphragm [most likely as I believe I can just about suck a little air through the hose].

What I'd like to know, if any of the experts are about is what the repair options are - I'm hoping not the entire turbo.

And... is there any reason not to drive the car until it is repaired?

edited to add: Engine code is CBAB

    VAG Error Code: 009571/7286/7934
    EOBD II Error Code: P2563

    Fault Location:
Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor (G581) Circuit - Implausible Signal

    Possible Cause:
    Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)(K83) active.
    Power Loss.
This fault code may be caused when the Actual and Specified Turbocharger requests are considered Implausible by the engine controller.

    Fuse(s).
    Wiring/Connector(s).
Turbocharger boost control position sensor (G581) faulty or Binding due to adjustment/Turbocharger issues.
    Excessive Carbon build-up.
Vacuum leak to/from Turbocharger (wastegate) actuator and Solenoid Valve for Boost Pressure Control (N75).
    Engine Control Module (ECM).

    Possible Solutions:
    Check/Replace Fuse(s).
    Check/Replace all faulty Wiring/Connector(s).
Ohm test Turbocharger Charge Pressure Actuator Position Sensor (G581), see factory repair manual.
Check mechanical Turbocharger operation to rule out binging and excessive carbon.
Check vacuum supply to/from Solenoid Valve for Boost Pressure Control (N75) and Turbocharger (wastegate) actuator.

    Special Notes:
When this fault is found in the North American Region (NAR) Market 2.0L CR TDI:
Measuring Block Group 034.2 (specified) and 034.3 (actual) Charge Pressure Actuator Position Sensor (G581) values can be logged to see if the fields should mirror each other or deviate to confirm a problem.
North American Region (NAR) market vehicles that had Technical Product Information (TPI) 2025464 | Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 21-11-01 or the latest Technical Product Information (TPI) 2025464/5 | Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 21-13-01 completed to prevent no-start conditions in cold weather caused by a frozen intercooler may want to see this

Had this problem on one of our families car, eml light up only, came up as P2563 fault
Car drove reasonably well, but suspected it was sticking vanes, the local garage said a new turbo would fix it, quoting £1300 etc
So applied Vacuum at actuator, hopefully to move rod as can be done on vw pd engines, but actuator wouldn't move and wouldn't hold vacuum on gauge
It appears the actuator needs a continuous suction to operate the rod/lever
So made a rod to get hold of threaded section rod then pushed and pulled to exercise the rod/vanes
Did this with engine running and vac on /off a number of times to free the stickion felt initially
When satisfied we had a freed up assembly, reconnected the air pipe which blocks access, cleared the fault code and hey presto all is now well
Fault code eml light has remained off and full 170 bhp returned

Failure of the diaphragm inside the actuator is common, there is a repair kit from VW but it must be set up very accurately.
