    Hi all,

    I have, like many have had, the very annoying error "16955 - Brake Switch (F)" "P0571 - 35-00 - Implausible Signal" and I just cannot seem to fix it.

    I had it about a year ago and for the life of me, I cannot remember what I did.

    This time, the dreaded "coil" light appear on the dash after about 60 seconds and the words "engine workshop" show up. It started, but I dont think it is linked, when I attached my trailer.

    So far I have;
    Disconnected the trailer wiring
    Changed the bulbs
    Swapped the brake switch with my wifes mk4 golf
    fitted a new brake light switch
    Tested the working of the switch looking at the measuring blocks in Vag-com
    cleared the error in vag-com and it immediately returns.
    Checked both fuses

    I'm not totally lost.

    I also get these errors occasionally, but they clear.

    Please help. My car is unusable. Someone (foriegn driver) damaged the NS, so it would be a write off. I really dont want to scrap it just for this

    Oh, I have cruise control. Not checked if it works, ie if the brake switches it off.

    Last time I fixed your particular fault was due to chafed damaged wiring due to rubbing on the plastic protector tube covers.

    Interesting. Where was your wiring fault? Boot lights on under the dash?

    The wiring brake was under the bonnet. I had to trace the wiring from the abs module back to the inside to the switch i found the brake in the main loom that is in the plastic shrouding leading from the module to the bulkhead.
