Hi, I am a new Touareg owner and new to forum, I searched on brakes and see nothing similar.

Car - 2012 VW Touareg 3.0 TDI SE Auto, 45,000 miles

My problem is that sometimes, getting more frequent, the brakes are lightly being applied whilst driving without any contact with the brake pedal! It get's worse if you don't stop. Stopping and restarting the car along with pressing the brake pedal seems to fix the issue until it comes on next time.

    Any ideas welcome please!

    Many thanks,
    A

Hi Overdose, the car slows as if brakes or a handbrake is being lightly applied. You have to put much more revs on to keep moving. Any ideas welcome! Thanks for replying.

Your toureg has brake assist for hill descents, it sounds as if there is a fault with that system. I'm not familiar with it (pal has a q7, but i keep clear!)but suspect there are fancy inclinometers etc that look at overun and hill angles, best bet would be a full vcds scan to see what comes up.

Is this only when the wipers are on? A full code read would be the best start.

Hi Crasher, I do believe wipers are always on when it happens, why do you ask that? Is there a known issue there please? Thanks

The CAN BUS tells the ABS that the wipers are on so the ABS "assumes" it is raining and so periodically applies the brakes to wipe the discs clean, if the wrong pads are used this can be to sharp, I think it is adjustable, certainly you can turn it off.

because some bright spark invented the can bus system and it all expanded from there. far far too complicated.
