Fuel injectors and boost pressure

Hi all, my 2010 2.0tdi DSG 140 90k has been a bit of a PITA since I bought it - I have to say though despite ongoing issues, it's never once let me down.

I do have one other thread about this/similar issues from a while back that I'll link to and edit in when I find it. (Found it: https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...Warning-light)

Basically, I have an issue with black smoke at low revs under load and when tonking it. It's also sluggish and laggy until 2000rpm.

When cold, first thing pulling away from the kerb it literally won't accelerate. After about 10 seconds of creeping along it finally gets going and from there improves. After five minutes it's normal.

It also won't reverse up hills when cold... I know this sounds bizarre but it really struggles to increase rpm. Big cloud of smoke and very little movement. If I can get a run up at it it just about manages. Its a little better when warm.

DPF gutted, EGR blanked and deleted. Turbo replaced with a recon unit. Nothing really helped.

I had an injector fail two months ago, all of a sudden it was running on three cylinders, really obvious, had it changed and it worked.

For a while now I've been suspecting the injectors may be a factor in my issue. A local place says probably not and it sounds like a boost issue.

Given I've had a replacement turbo this isn't music to my ears....

Two questions:

Does any of this sound injector related and is 90k an expected failure window - should I expect the other three to fail?

I've bought a boost gauge to fit give me some real time info about what boost pressure I'm developing. I plan to fit it just before the egr so I can get an idea of the real, post intercooler situation. Ideally I'd have two with the other just after the turbo.

What kind of pressure should I be looking for?

And advice or further questions welcome, I do have VCDS but haven't scanned in a while.

Do an Autoscan and post here?
Then go into each module, clear all faults. Switch off IGN. Exit car and lock. Wait 10 mins to ensure car's gone into "sleep" mode.
Re-enter, IGN on, do another Autoscan and post here in separate reply.

Not a TDi head here but there's those that are.

Have you had your injector recall done?
When was you cam belt last changed?

Where did you get this re-con turbo? How many miles ago?
Did it run alright then?

I've updated the first post with the VCDS log - I know the software needs updating - now done.

Haven't had an injector recall - I thought it was earlier models....?
Haven't taken it to VW for the emissions recall either - DPF/EGR delete.

Got the turbo from an online recon specialist in Manchester - seemed legit and loads of turbos in his unit, all clean, bagged, racked etc. Fitted by Advanced Tuning in Accrington. Waste of £700 quid as it made bugger all difference.

The thing is, it runs ok in general. Its a bit slow on take off but general cruising it behaves itself. I get a puff of smoke whenever I set off, at the lights, junctions etc or when the revs drop and it starts to struggle - or if I floor it. I've adapted my driving to suit an keep the revs higher than 1800rpm either by using sport mode or going manual. Towed a big caravan to Brittany (1800mls round trip) last year - smokey when working hard, 22mpg, under powered but made it there and back with no issues. I've done 25k in 18 months with this same fault now....

To be honest I'm sick to death of it. I've spent 1.5k on car part darts. If I could get my hands on some cash I'd trade it in!

If you've had an EGR/DPF removed, have you had your ECU re-mapped to reflect this?
Or has the soot level been reset in VCDS to 1?

Injector recall applies up to '10MY but that's only the Touran with BMN engine.

Right, sorry for the delay!

I've done as you asked; scanned, cleared codes, turned off for 10 minutes, gone back and re-scanned - posted below. You will note that it now shows no faults at all - however I know that the MIL will be back on five minutes after driving away....

In regards to the DPF/EGR, yes the ECU has been remapped accordingly.

I've been to a new garage this morning who has advised me to get Coolant Pump 2 sorted first off - he said its possible that if its short circuited, it can feed a live back up to the ECU which can have strange effects, he's seen it before. So that's the first job. He also mentioned I may want to replace the boost sensor in the front turbo hose as he has seen five or six issues related to those over recent years.

Not got around to fitting the boost gauge yet but I'm going out shortly and will record the boost specified and actual log, graph it and post it up.

As always, any advice or further insight gratefully received.

It could be due for a gearbox oil service, i think they need doing every 40k, these dsg gearbox are really sensitive, as iv had loads of problems with them. They're really fragile.

So you have DPF removed, EGR buggered about with and then a re-map on top? Add to that the fact that DSG boxes are tightly tied in with the ECU and are not too tolerant of seeing anything they don't expect. The first and obvious thing to do is to put the car back to the way Fritz at the factory built it. Short of that, you're going to be trying to knit spaghetti figuring out what's the problem(s).
