    VCDS throws up following:

    1 fault found:
18263 -Powertrain Data Bus : Software Version Monitoring
    P1855 - 35-00 - -

It doesn't clear but doesn't seem to affect anything. Any idea what it means?

Yes I had this on a Passat 3B back in 2009 and commented on it on another forum as someone else had the same issue (the wonders of Google) but it was never resolved on there. I remember I did find the cause and it turned out to be that someone had changed the coding in the instruments for the service interval to be shorter and this left code 18263 on the engine ECU, I changed the coding back to longlife and the code cleared. I have had a trawl through all the files from 1st October 2009 back to the 19th August 2009 and I found the file. I found that I needed to change the instrument codding to 05415

This was the code read (appropriate bits for brevity)
