I managed to lose a key (not a smart one) for my A6 2015 on a drunken night out. Fortunately the car was nowhere near where I lost the key so I'm not too worried about it's safety.

What is the best way to get a replacement key? Audi are quoting almost £300 and I don't actually know if this is my only option or if there are alternatives.

£300 is actually not that bad for remote and key.
Make sure they remove the old key from the system so even if someone found it it will be useless

I lost a key to my A7, my local dealer (Knaresborough) charged me £214.97 for the key/transmitter but nothing for programming it or deregistering the lost key...

When I bought my A6 last month it only came with one key. Hating the idea of losing the only key I did a search and found that the only places you can really get them from are Audi or Audi specialists and the Audi actually charged less in my area. £214 for the key and then £60 to code it. Expensive but much less than the cost should I have lost the only key.
