    As far as I'm aware Audi use the following terminology:

    Multitronic = CVT
    Tiptronic = Stadard Auto
    S-Tronic = DSG

    Having had an s-tronic with the code for triptronic and the 8 speed auto with the code for triptronic, i would bet the multitronic also has the code.
    Heres some info on it What's the difference between Tiptronic and automatic transmissions? - Quora

    I'm not disputing the option code, but regardless Audi call their Auto gearbox the Tiptronic - or at least they did for the A7.

    So, for say a 2013 A7, there was a Multitronic, Tiptronic and S-Tronic gearbox. Whether all Tiptronic models have the wheel shifters I don't know, but my model of car is called a Tiptronic, which can be seen if you put it into a car insurance search form, or autotrader etc.

    I agree. i guess they refer to it as a triptronic because it sound better than auto, from a salesman perspective.

    Tiptronic is the name of the type of gearbox, just as the S-drive and Multitronic are types of gearboxes.
