It's really intriguing to see what if anything manufacturers do.

For example parents Qashqai is a £0 tax car - great....but had they bought it April 1st onwards = £140

I'm not sure if it will really affect cars like Q7/X5/XC-90 primarily as the cost of the £450 tax in the grand schemes is minimal.

Where it could hurt sales more is on cars like S3/A4 upwards as some of them with a couple of boxes ticked easily go over the £40k bracket and therefore £450 tax. My understanding is that it's price of car inc options pre discount that is used.

Therefore think about the A6 Ultra models as another example - ultra great efficiency and low emissions...look at the OTR price

Can't tick a single box on the 190bhp otherwise hit the £450 tax...

As I said really interested to see what happens - will we see a surge of prereg models March 1st-31st?

For me, owning a nice car is an irrational decision and a complete waste of money anyway!

I'd probably tick one less option and say the increase in road tax costs me a £1 p/d extra and buy it anyway

it sounds very over complicated.. but, cars that are currently in the 500 odd quid a year bracket will be in the 140 a year bracket in 10 years time when us paupers are buying them, so they will be more affordable.

Lol.. be careful what boxes you tick.. I'm quite sure some folks have already figured how to entice the meandering general public, generally speaking ofcourse..

I'm yet to read the whole tax change affair again as don't fully get it!!

I do however think the whole things a FARCE and it stinks! What ? Road tax ? Most of it, ....really does no good at least transparently, .. roads are only going to get harder to maintain and of course are generally ignored for the last decade, I don't see train transportation as a viable cheaper alternative so screwed again!

Personally I would rather a RECYCLING TAX introduced to all retailers who use plastic and polystyrene materials to sell goods and food that would do more good to pollution .. so thats my take currently. :-0

It is a farce. People who can afford (or choose to buy) more expensive cars already pay more in VAT.

It should be done on mileage or fuel to encourage less use / more efficiency.

Paying more road tax encourages you to do more miles to get your money's worth

Stood in the dealership, my missus said categorically she would not want the SQ if its delivered after the tax rise. She doesn't see that the increase is a fraction of the value of the purchase price of the vehicle, or just a tank of fuel every 3 or so months....for her it's more money going out without value. Fortunately, the salesman took her seriously and managed to find a slot he said, 10mins previously, nobody in the country had. I'm still not sure if I'm just married to a really tight wife (not in that way) or a genius haggler.

Sounds like you're going to sneak in just in time. Even with a 30/1 build week you should be okay

Even better still, what if you buy a new EV?

Spend £40k+ on a 'clean' vehicle with zero emissions and after year one, your emissions tax penalty is £310 a year for 5 years.

Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.

which means that you wont be able to sell it.. which is a good thing..
incidentally, all this zero emissions rubbish, its zero emissions from the car, a coal and peasant powered power station still has emissions ..
