Interestingly also noticed the XL are two points better on the fuel consumption ratin, the trade off in ride under certain circumstances is unpleasant but overall worth it. The steering turn in is also better due to the stiffer sidewalls.
I'm doing 30-40k a year and maintenance is out of my own pocket so I need to find a healthy balance of longetivity and £££, the best tyre I ever had on a car was the Pilot Sport 2, I got near 40k out of the rear 2 on my A6 quattro, 20k out of the fronts, they were pricy, £1000 for 4 at that time!

I would love the new Pilot Sport 4-S however they don't seem to cater for 18" for my Passat, only 19 & 20 inch!

Evening all, looks like I've started this debate off again, sorry! It's interesting how we all have different experiences depending on car, driving, use and budget etc and it's hard really to say what is the best and recommend.

The P Zeros already fitted perform well as I do like to push it hard, not bad in the wet but had the sought bit of aquaplaning and just a little noisey on different roads surface. This may be due to these been almost done though with about 3mm left. Saying that these were already on the car so it's doesn't feel as bad on the pocket. This be the first set I'll be buying so hopefully getting this right. Apart from less road noise I think the other criteria is best wet grip as do quite a lot of motorway.

I suppose once in the higher end bracket of tyres most of these are going to be pretty decent in most respects.

So RS3 people love them or hate them it seems, good price though online at £106. The Dunlop's GT2 I've seen seemed to review well, Hankooks come off well too. Kumho ?

    Thanks for the input guys

TBH the whole Rain Sport thing is just marketing , the top Summer tyres have excellent wet capability due to canal like channels , just look at this highly regarded Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2 .
