    Hello There,

I am a few member, so please be gentle....

I have an annoying issue with drivers side electric seat. The seat will not go all the way forward. The seat will move up, down, back and forward in all possible directions, but it will not go far forward enough so that my wife (5 foot 2) can drive the car. It just stops at a certain point.

I had a good look around using a torch to see if any coins or anything was blocking the way in the rails, but nothing could I find. And I am quite sure that the seat used to go further forwards, its just a new problem.

Does anyone else have experience of this? Are there any easy things to check or quick fixes? I don't especially want to go the main ******* and have my pants pulled down.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

My car is 2004 A8 3.0 V6 petrol auto - fairly standard spec as far as I can see.

I just noticed that the forum censored a work in my first post, the word was not a 'rude' word, rather a word that rymes with 'dealers'. I have no idea why they would censor that. If you are curious, it was the world that rhymes with dealers, but starts with an S, and means people that take stuff from you. Know what I mean?

if you read the forum rules, you will find that you are not allowed to refer to a dealer as a criminal, as that is what you are doing.

Referring to a "Dealer" as someone who steals

Re the problem at hand does the passenger seat move further forward than the driver seat?

Does the motor try to push the seat further forward or does it just stop without making a sound?

Check the bolts holding the rails to the floor are tight and that the heads aren't blocking the path of the seat.

If nothing else works, you can get further forward by raising the seat up and tilting it forward - not good if she's tall of body though.

Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.

    Hi Sam,

thanks for your speedy reply - I'll reply to your questions using the quote thing...

Re the problem at hand does the passenger seat move further forward than the driver seat? YES - the passenger seat moves a bit more forward. It goes past the end of the rail on the floor.

Does the motor try to push the seat further forward or does it just stop without making a sound? It sort of stops without making any sound - no grinding or groaning. It stops suddenly, almost as if it thinks that is should stop there.

Check the bolts holding the rails to the floor are tight and that the heads aren't blocking the path of the seat. THANKS - i will tighten them all just in case that is the thing.

If nothing else works, you can get further forward by raising the seat up and tilting it forward - not good if she's tall of body though.
THANKS - I don't think that will work though, as the issue is that her legs are not very long (ok they are very short! Short but lovely... ) She simply cant quite reach the accelerator.

PS _ sorry about the slang word for dealers....didn't know that it's use was banned.

    Hi Sam,

just a quick thought.....If I am going to be exact, the seat stops going forward EXACTLY when it seems to hit the end of the rail. On the passenger side, it goes past the end of the rail. I watched this in close up many times, just to try and figure out what is going on.

I wonder if there is some sensor that 'thinks' it is at the end of the rail.

I would imagine that this problem would apply to those with an A4, A6 or passat and other VAG cars, I can't imagine that they have millions of different types of power seats.

PS - I think the power seats are one of the most annoyign things about this car. That and the No. 1 most annoying thing - the power trunk. What the hell? I really liked the manual seats in my last BMW...so easy and so much quicker. The power trunk thing seems totally retarded...if you are too weak open the boot of your car, you should not be driving. You should call an ambulance straight away.

    Hi Zollaf,

its a new thing. I got the car about 4 months ago, and it was working fine. This new problem is about a week old.
