    Hello,

i have recently purchased an 05 A8 4.2 tdi, love the car, but have one big issue.

The buttons and the lights are not working on any of the mmi control panel.

if I start the car via keyless start the screen will pop up and the audio can be played and I can use the volume and change channels via steering wheel controls, i can can use voice assist to a limited degree. I cannot access cd, or Bluetooth or other settings.

i know I need to hook this up to a vag com, but is there..

    * any fuses that can be checked
    * any way of changing car suspension without mmi

i am thinking of purchasing the control unit head from eBay, as I think water may have gone into the unit.

    any advice is helpful.

    thanks

I would check first wires connecting head unit with buttons as they could get damaged. if you say head unit is working, there is no fault with it. maybe a plug on back of head unit unplugged.

    Hi Damtom,

Thanks, I will try this, I presume it is easy to do.

i have noticed one of the buttons is sticking, so I think at sometime there may have been some liquid spill.

yeah if you suspect liquid spillage then try raising button panel up, inspect it. could be panel itself damage which will cost you less than head unit

I opened the panel, one button was stuck, but it looks like there was some liquid, board looks fine though.the wiring was all clipped in.

i think I will see if I can get a board next.

You can wash them under the tap with warm water, as long as you flush it afterwards with distilled water and then dry it with isopropyl alcohol aerosol...

Thanks, That's my worry, if no voltage is coming through.

A garage in Salford want £200 for the control panel and fitting, but I am worried it may be the main unit

why would you pay garage to do it if you can do it yourself, just buy button panel of eBay, connect and you will see what's happening.
