    Evening all,

Thought I'd share another retrofit that is currently in progress that I'm working on in parallel to my Side Assist retrofit. This one is for HomeLink support.

For those that dont know, Homelink supports the ability to primarily open and close your electric garage from buttons within your car. Many variants of Audi's have this as a factory order option but bizarrely for UK folk its not even an option on the Q7 4M but that doesn't mean it can't be fitted!

I've managed to get all the parts, primarily from a well know auction site in Germany and the first task was to fit the homelink buttons into the overhead roof console. I ended up buying a whole second overhead roof console and while I could have done a straight swap with my one, the one I bought had a few marks on it around the reading lights, so in the end I just swapped the homelink buttons and trim over to my one which is in better condition but it first involved me taking the one I bought completely apart which was interesting! (see below)

The second part of homelink is the main control module (and aerial) that is stored in the rear bumper. I'm not fitting it there because I can't be bothered to remove the rear bumper so instead just going to install it behind the luggage trim in the boot. The aerial for it has been run up the side trim of the car all the way to the front under the dash.

I haven't installed the main control module yet as I need some connector wires that I forgot to order from my dealer so just waiting for them to arrive but the other bits are done. I've attached a few pics of the install of the switches in the overhead console.

In addition, homelink can be used to control security cameras or devices that support the Z-Wave protocol like front doors locks, lights, heaters etc so one could use buttons 2 and 3 to say unlock the front door as you park on the driveway if your hands are full of shopping...

Will post a new update once the control unit is in and I've sorted the necessary coding.

    Cheers

    Andy

Good thinking about not to install in the rear bumper! This is the reason (being in the bumper) I thought to order with the car (Ł200 option in Hungary) and not to try to retrofit.

    Thanks Anemeth.

Do you have vcds or odbeleven but any chance? I need an adaption map of module 5f to see what needs changing to enable it in the mmi.

No worries if not, I'll just trial and error it!

    Andy,

My car will be delivered mid March only, but ODIS 3.0.3 already installed on my Toughbook CF-19. I will see how it will go with that first before other hardware/software.

If you have not figured it out by mid March, I can look at my car for you of course.

    Update.

Now all working after figuring out all the necessary coding.

Had to Wire into the necessary communication lines and get power etc sorted Then it was a matter of getting fuse connector and fuse added to the luggage compartment fuse block and so forth.

    Then coding figured and voila

Now I just need my garage opener installed

However I have another system which can control lights etc en route so when it's arrived I'll use that to test with and do a quick video.

    Cheers
