    Hi
Yes I know how to reset and have done several times when experimenting. It's the performance that seems OK that's putting me off buying a new one. Maybe clean egr tomorrow first!

My 2010 Golf 2.0 GT TDI has recently stopped reaching 90 degree's, and mpg has dropped from 60 to low 40's. seemed like typical thermostat symptoms, blocked the airflow to the radiator and it got up to temp. Replaced thermostat and no different. Found an additional cooling circuit for the EGR cooler that has its own electric pump. If I disconnect this pump the engine warms ok but puts it in limp mode. Looked that the temp sensors and both reading the same and correct to the engine state. How is this pump controlled? I've had a VW tech look at this and he's not seen this issue given what I've already done. He's advised to change the EGR cooler thinking the gasses aren't warming the cooler as much as the ECU is expecting. Also I did have an issue a few months back with the EGR faulting, so being a common problem I'm replacing this anyway. Don't think this is going to cure the warming up issue though tbh.
    What are your thoughts?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated 👍

Well I changed the Maf and it has made no difference at all. I wasn't really expecting it to as it seemed to rev fine and the Maf adjusted at higher rpm that I don't think happens if it's faulty. At least I have ruled it out. I suppose vacuum hoses test and replace next call?

Have you checked and logged the boost pressure or MAP, requested vs. actual, maybe you have a boost pressure related fault?

    Hi All,

I am picking this thread back up as I never got the bottom of it and most other parts of the car are ok now. Such a shame as the mpg is half what i get from old polo that really is falling to bits.
Update is I created a boost leak test and found no leaks at all.
I also readjusted the injectors when fully compressed that made no difference. Still only getting 36 mpg on an hour run? I have calculated this manually also so know it's about right.
Only thing left I can think of is remove the inlet manifold and de clog it as has just under 180 k on it now? Is it possible to gain 5mpg from this?
Its been 3 years since fuel filter so could try that again.
What you think ?have I missed something?

Right I have some developments of things I have may have overlooked.
I have been back to Martin 1810 site VCDS AND PD TDI ENGINE HEALTH CHECK - PASSAT (This is an excellent comprehensive guide Martin if you ever read this!)

So there are two possibly three things I noticed.

    1. The temperature temperature sensor reading goes over 90 degrees, it goes up to 95 at the highest but tends to sit around 92.7 -93 degrees. Most problems I read are poor mpg as the temperature does not reach 90 but is it important that it goes over regularly? (It rises gradually and levels out about this temp).

    2. The Air intake temperature is quite a lot out from the ambient temperature. Temp today at time of reading was around 13.5 degrees. Air temperature reads up to late 30's so I am planning on replacing the air intake sensor. Could this be the culprit?

3.The Fuel temperature gets to between 60 -80 degrees Does this seem normal?

Do you think I need to replace both the Air Intake sensor and the CTS?

    Many thanks,
    Hope someone can chip in!

    Robert

I cleaned my 1.9 AWX manifold at 120k and it was pretty choked, carefully scrape the crud out the valve ports as well, definitely worth doing. Your coolant temp looks good, intake temp sensor may well be reading true if the car had been running a while and engine compartment was warmed up. What is it reading from a cold start? does it match ambient then and slowly come up? I think fuel is ok but can't remember what mine used to run at.
Admire your perseverance with this one !!!

    HI Rob

Yeah I just can't let it go! Another car going cost 5 or 6 grand I don't have that at the moment and there is nothing wrong with this one other than MPG.
Air intake started at 20 degrees and ambient was 13.5 so maybe an acceptable tolerance? It climbs as the car has been driven longer so maybe it's ok. Back to the drawing board then....

    Replaced fuel filter.
    Replaced Air filter.
    Replaced all Vacuum lines.
    Actuator moves ok
Did another boost leak test still fine.
Still not getting any better mpg.
I thought about injectors maybe or tandem pump issue but no smell of diesel around engine bay and the car starts straight away and performance is ok. Vacuum is OK.
Still need to clean the manifold not sure I am likely to gain 10 mpg though am I....

I think the temperature sensor was blue (green did not fit). Could it still be faulty? All it does is tell the ecu a reading and the fuel gauge right and these are OK and match up so pointless buying a new one??
Italian tune up made no difference .
at 36 mpg on a run I must be 10mpg down? That's a lot I think. I would swap the engine If I thought it would help but no guarantee.

There is a local independent vw specialist (north east) I could try but I don't want a bill for £00's of all the things tested I have already done. If I write a list off all things checked and give to garage maybe worth a shot. I can't see them doing anything I haven't but maybe I have missed something?
    What do you think?

    Does sound really low mpg
    Mine does steady 52 mpg
Got as high as 60 regularly during the summer
Only mod is egr delete, straight pipe instead
    8 k services
Never get below 48 even when driven really hard
Try the manifold anyway,it's a dirty job, wear gloves
