    Hi All

    first posting

    I have a Vw Polo TDI 2010 with 68000 miles .

the car keeps showing the yellow coil light i believe this is to do with the egr valve the car goes into limp mode.

i switch the ignition off it clears for a while but comes back on.My garage state its the EGR valve needs replacing and its a long job and will cost £700

    is this right .

can i add a product called JML into the tank to clear this or am i wasting my time?

also has anyone done this job at home DIY and could offer me advice how they did this

    thanks in advance

    Ned

the yellow coil light just means you have a problem, of which there could be a thousand problems

if the garage has scanned the car & that is the fault, then you can shop around OR go to another garage and ask to see the fault on their scanner & get another quote to supply and fit an egr valve

you could go to an indy VW garage in your area for a quote

you could also go to VW for a genuine egr from the Parts department, sometimes a genuine part doesn't cost any more than and it should last

That's some price eh ? My Audi A6 was £130 from Audi !!!

Can you take to another garage to read the code for the fault ?

Diesel cars need an Italian decoke around once a month, put car in 2nd gear, boot it for a few hundred yards and hold the revs just under the red and watch all the rubbish getting blasted out the exhaust in your mirror

this will restore power & mpg

Not worth the bother cleaning these egr valves . It's way to hard to get to and they are as reliable as a pensioner's erection.
